About

A technical writer by trade, I've spent over 25 years working through puzzles that involve communication, design, and coding.

I landed my first job as a technical writer in 1993 after getting an MA in creative writing. Though I had no experience, the hiring manager was willing to give me a chance. She asked if I could come in and take a tech-writing test. Happy with the results, she called and offered me the job the next day.

From that point on, with each new position that I took (and often in the same position but with a new client or product to manage), I spent my time learning technologies, processes, and audiences, focusing on the things particular people needed to do at specific times. In the process, I have learned many other skills, such as content management; graphic design and illustration; proposal development and marketing; coding; and UX design. I am currently building on these skills by taking the Google UX Design Certificate course.

In 2008, I got my PhD in English from Tulane University. I also write fiction. To see that side of me, go to www.kennethgulotta.com.

I currently live in New Orleans with my wife and our beloved menagerie. It is where I've been the longest, sum total, but I've  also spent a significant number of years in Austin TX, Washington DC, and Baltimore MD, and I'm looking forward to experiencing new places.
